or Yellow in 3D on Windows and Mac

Setting up the 3D Pokémon Gen1Recomp experience requires combining two elements: Gen1Recomp (the modern native engine running the game) and the Dramatic Shape Voxel Mod (or similar 3D voxel mods) to render the overworld and battles in 3D.

Step 1: Download Required Files

  1. Gen1Recomp Application

    • Download the latest release build for your platform (Windows, macOS, Linux, or Android) from the official GitHub.

  2. 3D Voxel Mod (ZIP)

    • Download the Dramatic Shape Voxel Mod (e.g., DramaticShapeVoxelMod.zip).

    • Do NOT extract this ZIP file. Gen1Recomp installs mods directly from compressed .zip archives.

  3. Compatible Pokémon Game File

    • Acquire an uncompressed US ROM file for Pokémon Red, Blue, or Yellow (.gb or .gbc extension). To do this, just simply search it on Google.

    • Note: The ROM must be unzipped; .zip ROM files are not supported by the ROM importer.

Step 2: Install & Load Your Base Game

  • Launch Gen1Recomp: Extract the downloaded Gen1Recomp archive and open the executable/app (gen1recomp.exe on Windows, or the app on macOS/Android).

  • Select the Matching Game Tab: At the top launcher bar, click the tab for your specific version (Red, Blue, or Yellow).




  • Import Your ROM:

    • Click Import ROM

    • Navigate to and select your extracted .gb / .gbc file.

    • Once validated, a green Play button will appear.

  • Test Run: Click Play once to verify that the base game boots up correctly, then exit back to the launcher.

Step 3: Install the 3D Voxel Mod

        1.Open the Mods Menu:

            In the Gen1Recomp launcher interface, click the 4-Dot (Mods) Icon located near the                top game tabs (or press F10 on a keyboard).



        2.Import the Voxel Mod ZIP:

            Click the Import mod (.zip) button in the upper-right corner. Select the                                    DramaticShapeVoxelMod.zip file directly from your downloads.



        3.Enable the Mod:

            Ensure the toggle switch next to Dramatic Shape Voxel Mod is flipped ON                            (Green/Ready).


Step 4: Configure 3D Camera & Display Settings

  1. Launch Game: Return to your game tab (Red / Blue / Yellow) and press Play.

  2. Enable In-Game Voxel: Open the in-game Options menu and change VOXEL from Off to Full (or choose an angle threshold like 15, 35, 50, or 75).

  3. Controls & Shortcuts:

    • Camera Angle / Zoom: Use keys Q / E (or right/left stick on a gamepad) to adjust camera zoom and perspective.

    • Toggle Modes: Use hotkeys 3, 5, 6, and 7 to cycle between different 3D angles, dynamic lighting, water reflections, and voxel depth profiles.

Quick Fixes if Something Does Not Work

  • No 3D effect appears: check that the VoxelMod switch is green, return to the game, and press 3 while your character is in the overworld.
  • The mod ZIP will not import: make sure you selected the original VoxelMod ZIP and did not extract it first.
  • The ROM will not import: confirm that the game tab matches the ROM and that you selected an extracted .gb or .gbc file. Import ROM does not support ZIP files.
  • The game becomes slow: turn off the blur with 6, turn off voxel outlines with 5, and use a less extreme 3D angle.
  • Another graphics mod causes visual problems: temporarily disable the other mod and test VoxelMod by itself.
